Highways & InterstatesThe highly accessible city of Atlanta is intersected by I-20, I-75 and I-85. I-20 comes in from the west from Birmingham, Alabama and Dallas, Texas and from the east, from Augusta and Columbia in South Carolina. I-75 passes through Atlanta on its way north from Florida to Michigan. I-85 heads southwest to Montgomery, Alabama and northeast to Charlotte, North Carolina and Virginia. Atlanta is ringed by the I-285, a perimeter highway that circles the metropolitan area.
Public TransportationTraffic can often be congested in the city. The best alternative to driving in Atlanta is the excellent MARTA system; an effective method of getting around with free transfers to the bus system, where appropriate.
